Completed November 1880, with first performance 30. October 1881, in Saint Petersburg. Noted in the score : "The larger the string orchestra, the better will the composer's desires be fulfilled.''
Recorded in 1993 by The Saint Petersburg Camerata, under the direction of Saulius Sondeckis.
